Why UV Stability Matters

UV radiation degrades every organic coating exposed to sunlight. The question is not whether UV will degrade the coating — it will — but how quickly, and whether the system has been designed to resist it.

How UV Degrades Roof Coatings

Chalking

UV radiation breaks down the polymer binder in the coating, releasing pigment particles to the surface as chalk. Chalking is visible as a white powdery deposit. It indicates active UV degradation — the coating is losing film integrity and UV resistance simultaneously.

Loss of Elasticity

Elastomeric coatings rely on polymer chain flexibility for their elongation properties. UV radiation crosslinks polymer chains, progressively reducing flexibility. Surface Cracking
