Commercial & Industrial
Coating Applications

Forti Nova provides commercial coating systems, industrial coating applications and specialist waterproofing solutions for roofs, gutters, cladding, concrete, structural steel, decks and below-ground structures across the UK. Explore the available application routes by building element, substrate, defect and required performance, or submit the project for direct technical assessment.

Forti Nova supports commercial and industrial coating projects across roofing, cladding, guttering, concrete, structural steel, car park decks and below-ground structures. Asset types include warehouses, schools, hospitals, local authority estates, retail parks, housing association stock and infrastructure. System selection follows a structured assessment of the building element, substrate, existing condition and required performance — product specification is confirmed after project review, not before. Manufacturer-backed technical support is provided throughout, and where installation is required, delivery is coordinated through approved applicators with confirmed product competency and equipment.

System Selection

How Is the Correct Commercial Coating System Selected?

No single coating system suits every project. The correct route is determined by six decision factors that must be assessed in sequence before any product is specified.

Factor 01

Building Element

The element being coated — roof, gutter, cladding, deck, structural steel, below-ground wall — determines which system families are technically relevant. A system selected for one element is not automatically suitable for another.

Factor 02

Substrate

The material being coated — profiled metal, concrete, felt, asphalt, masonry, ACM, existing coating — governs adhesion requirements, primer selection and compatible chemistry. Substrate confirmation is not negotiable.

Factor 03

Existing Condition

Substrate moisture content, existing coating adhesion, corrosion extent, structural integrity, defect type and coverage area must be assessed before a refurbishment route can be recommended. Overlay cannot correct structural failure.

Factor 04

Source of Failure

Whether failure originates from detailing, drainage, movement, adhesion breakdown, UV degradation, mechanical damage or substrate deterioration determines whether coating, overlay, repair or replacement is appropriate.

Factor 05

Environmental and Operational Exposure

UV exposure, thermal cycling, ponding water, foot traffic, vehicle loading, chemical exposure and wind uplift all affect system selection and performance requirements. Traffic-bearing and non-traffic systems are not interchangeable.

Factor 06

Required Performance and Complete Build-Up

The complete system — primer, membrane, reinforcement, topcoat, detail products — must be confirmed as a whole against the required service life, warranty conditions, fire classification where applicable, and applicable standards.

Waterproofing Applications

Commercial Waterproofing Applications

Commercial and industrial waterproofing system selection depends on the building element, substrate, existing construction and source of water ingress. Available application routes include cold-applied liquid rubber roof systems, high-output spray-applied waterproofing membranes, seamless gutter lining, below-ground waterproofing projects assessed with reference to BS 8102 and the project-specific design requirements, and car park deck protection systems. Each route requires pre-application substrate assessment and is confirmed as a complete system — not individual product selection.

Industrial Roof & Cladding

Industrial Roof and Cladding Coating Systems

Industrial roof and cladding coating systems can extend the serviceable life of metal, profiled and composite building envelopes where the existing substrate remains structurally suitable. Key selection factors include corrosion extent, existing coating adhesion, panel and fastener condition, detailing at junctions and upstands, UV exposure class and the required finish durability. Asbestos cement roof encapsulation is subject to additional survey, management-plan and project-authorisation requirements before any system can be confirmed.

Protective Coatings

Protective Coating Applications

Specialist protective coatings are applied where a surface must resist UV degradation, abrasion, chemical attack, ponding water or operational traffic loads beyond the capability of standard waterproofing systems. Industrial concrete, structural steel, access decks and floor surfaces may each require a different protective build-up. System selection is always confirmed against the actual substrate, exposure conditions and required service life — not applied as a generic product choice.

Fire Protection

Fire Protection Coating Applications

Fire protection coating applications must be separated by performance objective before any system is specified. Reaction-to-fire surface coatings, intumescent passive-fire protection systems and structural-steel fire-protection builds are distinct system types with different certification, fire-engineering input and regulatory evidence requirements. Applicable standards and Approved Document B compliance must be confirmed against the specific project fire strategy — not inferred from product data sheets alone.

Find by Substrate

Find a System by Substrate

System selection begins with the substrate. The building element, existing construction and surface condition determine which coating or waterproofing route is technically appropriate.

Technical Guidance

Common Specification Questions

How do I choose the correct commercial coating system?

The correct commercial coating system is selected against the building element, substrate, existing condition, source of failure, environmental exposure, required performance and intended service conditions. Product selection should follow project assessment — not precede it.

What commercial building elements can be coated or waterproofed?

Suitable project routes may be available for commercial roofs, industrial roofs, gutters, cladding, concrete decks, structural steel, below-ground walls, flat roofs and other specialist building elements. Suitability depends on the existing construction and the complete proposed system.

Can Forti Nova provide specification and installation support?

Forti Nova supports qualifying projects through initial assessment, manufacturer-backed technical coordination, system supply and approved-applicator delivery. Applicator suitability remains product, equipment and competency dependent.

Can an existing commercial roof be refurbished instead of replaced?

Some commercial and industrial roofs can be refurbished using coating, overlay or encapsulation systems where the substrate, deck, insulation and existing construction remain suitable. A condition assessment is required before the refurbishment route is confirmed.

What information is needed before a commercial coating system can be recommended?

A meaningful system recommendation requires: the building element and substrate type, access to an existing condition assessment or survey, the source of the defect or failure, the area and scale of the project, the required performance outcome, any applicable regulatory or fire-safety requirements, and project programme constraints. Enquiries that lack substrate and condition information cannot be assessed to specification stage without a site visit.
