Application by unqualified contractors

FireGuard Pro 200 requires trained approved contractor application. Application by general painting contractors — without training in correct coverage rates, film thickness and application sequence — produces a system that does not meet its fire performance specification.

Incorrect film thickness

Fire-rated coatings perform to specification only when the correct dry film thickness is achieved. Under-application — even by a small margin — can reduce fire performance classification. Coverage rates must be measured and documented.

Application to contaminated or unprepared surfaces

Adhesion failure caused by contaminated substrate produces a film that is visually acceptable but structurally separated from the wall or ceiling. This coating will not perform to specification under fire conditions.

Overcoating with incompatible decorative coatings

Applying standard decorative paints over fire-rated coatings can mask the fire-rated layer or reduce its performance. Overcoating must be assessed for compatibility with the fire protection system.

A fire-rated surface coating limits the spread of flame across a surface — it does not make the surface fireproof. Fire-rated coatings are classified by their performance in standardised tests (surface spread of flame, fire propagation). When Not Suitable
